WhatsApp, the popular instant messaging app, is reportedly testing a new text editor that resembles the experience found on Instagram. According to WABetaInfo, the latest beta version of the app (v2.23.7.17) includes a revamped text editor that offers several new features and options for adding text overlays to images.
The new text editor offers at least seven font options, including some that bear a visual similarity to those found on Instagram. To make text more visible in high-contrast situations, users can also change the background color of the text. Additionally, WhatsApp now includes word processor-like text alignment buttons, allowing users to align text to the left, right, or center.
While the app already had the capability to add text overlays to images, the latest update bundles several new features and makes it easier to switch between font options. WABetaInfo notes that the new text editor experience is rolling out to beta testers in stages, and it may take some time before it becomes available to all users.
The addition of Instagram-inspired features to WhatsApp is part of a broader trend of cross-platform integration within Meta’s suite of apps. While WhatsApp has retained its focus on instant messaging, it has gradually been improved with features from Facebook and Instagram. The new text editor experience is another example of how Meta is working to integrate its various apps and offer a more seamless experience for users.
